{A Tale of a Sad Laundry Room : Part 2}

This post is a little lot past due. I've been meaning to share where we're at with the laundry room but kept putting it off. I thought that I would just share it once we had it completed but, seeing as completion doesn't seem to be in the near future, I figured I would share what we've done so far.

First, let me remind you what it looked like before.

Basically, it was one big hot mess. And this is what it looks like today...

There is still a good bit that I want to do before it will actually be finished but we have definitely made progress. I'll start from the top and tell you what we've done and what we still want to do.

First thing we did was take down the horrible wire shelves and patch all the holes in the wall and there were a lot of holes! I'm not sure why, but the people who lived here before us were a bit excessive with nailing stuff in the wall. Once everything was patched, we painted the room a beautiful gray and installed some cabinets. The cabinets were some cheap ones from Lowe's that we painted white and then added knobs.

We are planning to add crown molding to the top very soon. We are going to do it ourselves but first have to get an outlet hooked up for the compresser. I also want to get make some wood bins or buy some baskets to go on top of the shelves.

 We added a shelf above the washer and dryer and I am in love with the way it turned out. I bought the jars from Target and used my Cricut to add vinyl to them.

I still have to touch up the paint under the cabinets (I'm a bit of a sloppy painter) and I'm going to buy another jar to put stain remover in. I'm going to look for a basket to keep my dryer sheets in and also want to find a sign to hang on the wall.

We put down new floors as well and added new baseboards.

 I need something to put on this wall but haven't thought of what I want to go there yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. You can't see it but I also want to add a different light.

I've been trying to "Go Green" this year and have been experimenting with homemade laundry detergent and stain fighters. I'm going to post about those very soon and will hopefully be posting soon about our finished room!

{A Tale of a Sad Laundry Room: Part 1}

It started like a normal day. I fixed breakfast, cleaned a little, and decided to tackle the huge pile of laundry sitting in our closet. On the second load, a loud noise started coming from the washer. Right away, I knew it was a goner. When my husband got home, I showed him the washer and asked what we should do. We came up with three options.

  1. Call a repair man.
  2. Let Cole try to fix it.
  3. Buy a new one.
I was leaning towards 1 or 3. Cole decided option 2 was the answer. After a little time and a lot of water on the floor, it was then decided we would just go with option 3. We had to buy a new dryer back in June, so even though I wasn't exactly thrilled about buying a new washer, a little part of me was excited about having a matching set.

'Cause we all know that is what defines us in life, a matching washer and dryer…

Before I continue in this story, let me back up for just a minute and explain a few things. We bought our house back in June. For the most part, the walls our exactly the same as they were on the day we signed the papers. The laundry room is white, which happens to be the exact same color as the ceiling, and it has those horrible wire shelves. We've been meaning to paint it but taking down the shelves and moving the washer and dryer had it at the bottom of the To Do list. So, that night I got to thinking that we should probably paint it since the washer was out of the room. After talking to Cole, we decided to just go ahead and remodel the whole room. No more wire shelves and no more plain white walls.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please feast your eyes on our laundry room before…

Let's talk about what is wrong with this picture.

Wall color is drab.
Wire shelf is hideous.
Not much storage.
No decor or style.
Missing washer :)
Floors are horrible (even though they are not in the picture).

Here are a few pictures that have inspired me. I didn't link them to their original sources but you can find them all on my Pinterest

I can't wait to get started and will have updates very soon!

You can see where I party at here.
